Hi all,
Many of you were probably able to attend Jen Gottlieb's presentations on 5.11 and 5.18 about her trio of CBT-informed skills for helping clients during the pandemic. More details from those presentations are (or will be) available in the notes section of the forum, but they are also listed below along with relevant resources. As a reminder, these skills are relatively simple, behaviorally-focused exercises that build nicely off of each other and can be fantastic for managing pandemic-related stress while helping clients pursue their goals. The skills are as follows:

More details from those presentations are (or will be) available in the notes section of the forum, but they are also listed below along with relevant resources. As a reminder, these skills are relatively simple, behaviorally-focused exercises that build nicely off of each other and can be fantastic for managing pandemic-related stress while helping clients pursue their goals. The skills are as follows:
- Breathing Retraining: This is a quick skill for managing distress in the moment. Jen did not formally present on this skill during one of our calls, but you can see the attached for more information: Anxiety Information Sheet - 08 - Breathing ....pdf (97.25 KB). Additionally, you can review Jeff Roskelley's youtube video on mindfulness-based, breathing retraining skills as well at this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIaTehVnxxY&feature=youtu.be
- Action Plan: This is a collaborative exercise for generating solutions to problems in the client's life as well as identifying proactive strategies for pursuing wellness, both within and separate from the pandemic. More details can be found in the 5.11 notes, but the worksheet for the skill is attached here as well: Action Plan Worksheet ACT 4-2020Fillable 1.pdf (933.09 KB)
- Activity Scheduling: This is another collaborative exercise where you work with the client to first evaluate their baseline activity, then, from there, work to slowly increase the number of activities that allow them to experience mastery and pleasure. Additionally, you can help them reorganize their days to maximize efficiency and pair onerous, "have to" tasks with more desirable rewards. This is a natural next step from building an Action Plan, and should incorporate those activities, as well as other team documents (such as the PACT weekly schedule) and coping skills/other therapeutic goals (such as Breathing Retraining). More details will be available in the 5.18 notes, but the worksheet is also available here: Activity Scheduling Grid ACT 5-2020FILLABLE.pdf (253.13 KB)
