Hi everyone, I wanted to start a thread about how teams are managing medication support to clients, beyond the logistics of telepsychiatry. Here's a summary of some ideas from various ACT COVID-19 calls: Going through client roster to see who can safely be delivered larger quantities of medications to reduce exposure. Related to that: - doing med reminders and teaching medication management over the phone
- working with the pharmacy to use bubble packs to help clients organize medication. Possibly purchasing med boxes as well to help organize pills, and using phone calls to help them set the boxes up
- purchasing lock boxes for clients who live in a neighborhood where it may not be safe to leave medications around. Using phone contacts to instruct clients in how to use lock boxes
Altering how medications are delivered so as to minimize risk of exposure to clients and team members. These strategies include:
- leaving medications outside client doorstep without interacting with the client, then following up via the phone or via conversation held at least 6 feet apart
- seeing if the pharmacy can deliver medication themselves
Considering switching to medications that need less face to face interaction when clinically appropriate, such as transition clients on LAIs to oral medication
What else is your team doing? Post below!

I would love to know how people are doing medication for clients that have to be seen daily for medication administration due to being at a high risk of hospitalization if not seen daily for medication administration? Have you found any creative ways to limit contact with them while still watching them take their meds daily?

We are calling all consumers prior to arrival. We are screening them with questions such as-do you have a fever, cough, have you had contact with someone with a known or probable case of COVID 19. If they answer yes to any, we have been leaving the medications on the porch, in the mail box etc and then calling them to pick up the med strip from the said location, and observing them from the car.
